Gemma Graduated from Coventry University with a first class honours degree in physiotherapy. Since then she has spent time working in Africa and the UK, specialising first in musculoskeletal and sports injuries. Gemma has worked as a Senior Physiotherapist in various NHS trusts in Essex, North East London and now works as a clinical Specialist in Women’s Health at Peterborough City Hospital.
Gemma holds a Masters level postgraduate certificate in continence for physiotherapists from the University of Bradford. She also has a master’s level qualification in acupuncture. Other post graduate courses include Pilates and Breast Cancer soft tissue studies. She currently is actively involved with the national body “Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy”.
Gemma is passionate about women’s health and has a particular interest in treating postnatal women who have pelvic floor problems or abdominal separation following delivery. She is also very experienced with pregnancy related back and pelvic pain.
She see’s many ladies to develop individualised personal exercise programs during the antenatal and postnatal periods. She is passionate about promoting safe exercise striving to ensure ladies are able to exercise safely and regularly to ensure a healthy pregnancy and ensure better postnatal outcomes. She treats women and men of any age with bladder or bowel incontinence, constipation, prolapse, vulval pain or sexual discomfort.
In the little spare time Gemma has between balancing two jobs and studying, she enjoys family time with her little girl, and currently enjoying establishing a new exercise regime at the gym and running after a busy year of trying to achieve a work life balance.
Liezl Graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa with a first class Honors degree. She moved with her husband to the UK in early 2009 and since then has made a home in Peterborough. She specialised in Women’s health in 2010, and currently works at Peterborough City Hospital, holding a team leader post. Liezl has completed various postgraduate courses in women’s and men’s health and breast cancer soft tissue studies.
She has also completed her acupuncture foundation course and her case study received recognition when recently published in the AACP Journal. Liezl is passionate about pelvic floor rehabilitation and breast cancer rehab. She has a wealth of experience treating patients with bladder and bowel symptoms including incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain and constipation.
She also specialises in breast cancer care, treating ladies following breast surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy with shoulder or chest pain. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband, Mark, and their two boys Marcel and Rueben. She loves outdoor activities and family holidays.
Katie is a level 3 qualified personal trainer with a special interest in Women’s Health. She established her career on gym floors, offering classes and 1:1 personal training programmes. She then completed a qualification in GP exercicse referrals, improving fitness in clients with health concerns. It was during this time that Katie realised her passion was working with women during pregnancy, postnatal and beyond.
Katie also works at Peterborough City Hospital alongside the specialist womens health physiotherapists as a Physiotherapy Technician. Her duties include covering the maternity wards – assessing and measuring abdominal separation immediately post delivery and starting exercise programmes to develop abdominal strength as well as working on the Breast Cancer Wards starting exercise programmes for those ladies who underwent a mastectomy or reconstructive surgery.
Here at Specialised Physiotherapy she offers 1:1 personal training consultations during and after pregnancy, after undergoing breast surgery and for general pelvic floor rehabilitation. Katie can assist you to progress through each phase of your rehabilitation with guidance and personalized exercise modification. She is even able to offer this in the comfort of your own home.
